People say to follow your passions, but how do you figure out what those are (besides cuddling up to some chips and guac in front of Netflix for the night)? Tune into this webinar to learn how to develop the career plan that's right for  you   and set priorities that will help you along your way during your first few years as a professional. Presenter: Peyton J. Gibson, EIT, A.M.ASCE, currently works in the Dam Safety Office at the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in the Greater Denver Area. She is highly involved with ASCE on a national and local level, holding positions with the Construction Institute of ASCE and the Denver Chapter. She is also the practitioner advisor for her alma mater, Colorado School of Mines, and is the chair of the Colorado State Infrastructure Report Card. Peyton will begin her Masters part-time at the University of Colorado, Boulder in Construction Engineering this fall. She enjoys her home state in the winter on the slopes at the resort and backcountry, and in the summer by backpacking and rock climbing the different regions of Colorado. She is passionate about infrastructure policy and American politics in general and hopes to one day transition from being an engineer to a political decision maker.

We now must utilize our emotional intelligence and people skills to create collaborative design and construction teams, communicate effectively, and resolve conflicts easily. This new set of skills is vital to our project success and our success as an industry. Learning Outcomes: Recall the basics of Emotional Intelligence, how it is defined, and how it relates to success or failure in the AEC Industry, especially with more collaborative project delivery methods. Describe how Emotional Intelligence affects every aspect of your life including mental and physical processes, your interactions with others, and your view of the world. Indicate how Emotional Intelligence can be measured and improved and what it takes to improve it. Give examples of how to measure your Emotional Intelligence and how you can improve it by analyzing where you are now, where you want to be, and how to get there through detailed development plans, measurement, and accountability.

    If you are active in ASCE Mentor Match or an ASCE member who is interested in enrolling you are welcome to join our conference call. Our host will be sharing a few mentoring tips. This will also be a time to discuss any challenges you’ve faced while allowing you to connect with others in ASCE Mentor Match. HOST: DOUGLAS D. GRANSBERG, PhD, PE., President, Gransberg & Associates, Inc. In 2017, Doug retired from his academic position as the Donald and Sharon Greenwood Endowed Chair and professor of Construction Engineering at Iowa State University. He now devotes his energies to his consulting practice which focuses on construction management consulting for projects delivered using alternative contracting methods. He is currently providing assistance to the Georgia DOT’s $11 billion Major Mobility Improvement Program and the Caltrans DB, CMGC, and business intelligence programs. He also developed and is currently delivering a Construction Engineering Certificate program for ASCE, provided via guided on-line learning. He received both his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University and his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is also a licensed Professional Engineer in Oklahoma, Texas and Oregon, a Certified Cost Engineer, a Designated Design-Build Professional and a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in the UK. Before moving to academia in 1994, he spent over twenty years in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers retiring at the rank of lieutenant colonel. Doug began his mentoring efforts while in the Army and carried them into his academic career. He formalized his “mentoring program” in 2002, and began formally mentoring three young academics at a time focusing on helping them achieve promotion and tenure at their institutions. To date, he has successfully assisted nearly 15 assistant professors at universities in the US, Canada, and New Zealand achieve tenure.
