    Oscar,

Your resume was very nice to look and but is a bit busy.  Try editing out the unnecessary information or grouping things in a way to give your existing information more breathing room.
Try to think of your resume objectively. If you were hiring this candidate, what would you look for?

    Keep up the good work!

    Anum:

Interesting Resume!!  However, I recommend not justifying your "break" in progression by the words {financial hardship}.  Rather think about how you tracked your time and note those accomplishments.  Did you sharpen your creativity skill?  How?  What?  Did you volunteer your expertise?  How?  What?

REF "Agile Management" tells us to fail fast and go forward.  "Resiliency" is truly a strength that few people own.  I believe that you have both quality-based skills.

    All the best,

    David

    Muhammad,

Good start for your resume. I made a bunch of suggestions but my main critique would be to have the reader of your resume in mind. If you are going for an engineering position have your descriptions mention the engineering you did in school or at your previous jobs.

    Best of luck!

    Ishani:

Just wanted to point at one aspect of your resume.  Primavera (elementary) seems strange to read.  Please remove the word elementary and replace with a brief description of the extent of your working knowledge (self-learned or other).  This shows strength in your curiosity skill and realism skill.  Yes, this scheduling platform is difficult to operate effectively.

    All the best,

    Interesting organization of accomplishments!!

Question -- Where are you seeking employment?
Links -- Verify that all are workable.  Government On Line Applications such as USA Jobs will limit the volume of data.  Caution advised.
Skills -- Please enumerate your achievements with specific role & responsibility.
    Certifications -- EIT?
Volunteer Activity -- "Built" the club....  What was involved?  What is the clubs name?
O-ENVIRON -- What is the company size?
Increased Definition -- What do you mean by "Projects (more than 10)"?
Youth Activity -- How many contact hours?

    All the best,

    Steve:

Question -- Are you comfortable with talking about Civil Engineering?  Or, are you more comfortable talking about CE Technology?  Basically, I would prefer that you frame the resume around a far reaching umbrella "Civil Engineering."
Observation -- Are you related to the same Copley as "Copley Construction"?  For Example -- Entrepreneurship?!  Take credit for a company start-up if so.
Skills -- Please sharpen by adding more detail such as "types of construction activity" (Design-Build or Fast-Track or Emergency Response or Pro-Active Sustainability).  Talk about the duration of specific activities that you were responsible in lieu of generalization.  Talk about the dollar threshold and the number of stakeholders involved.  Talk about safety aspects and client satisfaction.  Select 2 or 3 strengths in lieu of stating "all" construction activities insofar as demonstrating the value of your applied skill.  Additionally, be specific on the $19M project (What did you do unique to the mega project?)
Added Skill -- BIM.  Please add this buzz word.
Links -- Please ensure these are workable.  Government Online Applications such as USA Jobs will limit the amount of data!!  Exercise Caution.
    Number the pages!!
Utilize "spell check" such as "OSHA" in lieu of OSAH.  Verify Certificate Type whether 10 hours or 30 hours or both.  Additionally, Adam "State" in lieu of Adam state.

    All the best,

    David

Really good and well thought out.

Question -- Have you applied Environmental Engineering and Hydrology skills within recent activities?  If so, then enumerate on resume.  No worries, if not.
Distinguish -- Field Experience and Desk Experience.
    Certifications -- EIT?

A few tweaks to consider going forward.

Refresh -- Project 2016 tells the committee that you are "old school" and lack innovative knowledge.  Have you explored other more modern platforms?  For Example -- Your Creativity Strength.
Accomplishments -- Please provide greater depth such as the "value" of your specific contribution.  What did the client stakeholder say?
Logical Progression of Experience -- Preference is to list the most current first and so on.
    Certifications -- EIT?
    Number the pages -- Essential.

    Hi Shenoah,
    • I recommend rewording a bit of your work experience to highlight exactly what you worked on. "Reviewed and edited Brooklyn, NY green infrastructure porous pavement project 131 page design set, 60% and 90% submissions. Reviewed and edited 70 topography, utility, and elevation profile surveys."
    • What a neat project you were a part of while you were an intern to the Mayor!
    • If you hold any positions in the clubs that you are a part of, be sure to add those!
    • Make sure the dates are spaced under your Honors section

    Hi Kiyarash,
    • Add "Expected" before your August 2024 graduation date.
    • Are all of the experience descriptions various projects within your PhD program? They all sound very interesting, and I think it would help to add additional wording to understand if these are projects, classes, side projects?
    • I suggest minor edits under your Communication section - "Advising officer, facilitate a community for the students and their families to assist each other and spend time together."

    Hello everyone.
Thank you taking the time to review my resume.
I have been using this resume to apply all applicable entry-level job postings to no avail. I would like to know if there is something that is missing in my resume.
All opinions, reviews and comments are welcome.

    A little about me:
My name is Giri Subbu Rathinam Arun Kumar. I will be graduating with my M.S. in Civil Engineering (Structural Engineering) from University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC) in December 2022.
I am looking for entry-level full-time structural engineering opportunities anywhere in the US (no preference in job location). I am under F1 visa with one year OPT.

    Thank you.
    Looking forward to the review.

    Posted 11-16-2022 08:02 AM

    Hi Ekene,

It looks like the end of your first sentence and beginning of the second sentence were accidentally deleted, so we don't know what kind of role you are seeking.  I see you will graduate with your civil engineering degree soon, but your resume is geared toward a data analyst role in tech or business operations.  If you are not clear about your goals, hiring managers at civil engineering firms may think you would prefer a job in a different industry.  If that's true, disregard the things I'm about to suggest!  But it'd be great to have someone of your talents in the civil engineering profession.  Data/programming skills are certainly valuable in civil engineering, and you have some great experience.

If you really want to highlight your interest in civil engineering, you can restructure your resume to place civil engineering related items first.  For instance, place your civil engineering skills (structural analysis, highway design) before your data skills.  As an entry-level applicant, you can consider placing your education above your experience.  You can also separate your formal civil engineering education from online skill-building courses.  In the end, it might look something like this:

    • Education
      • Civil Engineering Degree
      • Senior School Certificate
    • Experience (use this instead of "Internship & Volunteering")
      • Data Analysis Role
      • Civil Engineering Internship
      • Afro-Tech Girls (could also go in Interests/Hobbies, or create a new section called Volunteer Work, Community Service, or Community Involvement)
    • Skills and Training
      • Online courses (The Forage, Coursera, Datacamp, Jobberman)
        • Note: make these much shorter, unless applying specifically to a data job
      • List of additional proficiencies
    • Awards
    • Interests/Hobbies

Also, have you ever used EDA, dashboards, or Python in a civil engineering context, either in school or in industry?  If so, add those examples to your resume.  You want to show how your data analysis experience can be a valuable adjunct to your future practice as a civil engineer.  Right now, data/programming skills are approximately 80% of your resume and the civil engineering part gets lost.

Consider strengthening the verbs you are using to describe your civil engineering experience – in particular, "involved in" and "participated with" sound passive.  You may not have had a large role as an intern, but be specific about what you accomplished.  Also, use consistent, active verb tenses (e.g., supervised instead of supervision).  For your volunteer role, instead of "all social media platforms," list them.  Don't forget to explain the impact of your work.  How big is the community?  Did you improve the follower count or other engagement metrics?

Instead of "fourth and penultimate year," just state your expected graduation date (typically, month and year).

Hopefully this gives you some helpful things to think about as you continue your career journey.  Please reach out if I can assist further.

    Best,

    Ashley

    Hi Christina,

I reviewed your resume and please see attached for some of my markups & feedback.
Overall I think you have a lot of great experience under your belt but it gets missed in too much text and the lack of spacing/formatting. The purpose of a resume is to highlight your experience and give me an idea of who you are, so don't feel like you have to put down everything about yourself because otherwise it gets overwhelming. The resume needs to be concise and detailed enough that picks up interest from companies, and the interviews are when you can go more in depth and give specific examples.

I would highly recommend condensing your resume down to 1 page and happy to review it again if you'd like.

Keep up the great work and congrats on graduating with your masters degree next month!

    Hi Muhammad,

I reviewed your resume and please see attached for my comments and feedback.

Two main things I'd like to highlight are:
    • Never use "I" or "my" in a resume since we know this resume is about you and bullet points are meant to be condensed sentences
    • your objective statement could use some updating because the purpose of that is to tell the company what kind of job you are looking for and a snapshot of your current experience
Keep up the great work and congrats on recently finishing your degree! If you'd like me to review your resume again after you've revised it, I'd be more than happy to do that.

    Hi Priyanshu,

I reviewed your resume and overall was really impressed with it!

    I have a couple minor comments/suggestions:
    • Under your profile section, i would replace "in the field of optimization" with "in the field of water distribution systems and hydropower" or something along those lines since optimization seems a bit broad
    • I would recommend adding months to your dates
    • Visually, it might look better if you filled in those bars that you have under your "software" and "soft skills" section
    • Soft Skills should be two words, not one word
    • Under international conferences, it would be helpful for you to spell out some of the acronyms since not everyone may know what they stand for
Keep up the great work and good luck with the rest of your PhD!

    Sezai:

Please think about navigation through your resume.  Would you have a difficult time reading the thoughts?  Kindly "space" them out a little more as one does not need to write across each inch of the page.  White space can be an excellent accent to your resume.  Perhaps go to multiple pages?!

U of Buffalo is an excellent spot and I spend several days each year working projects around the neighborhood.  Perhaps our pathways will connect?!

    Hi Sezai,

I reviewed your resume and please see attached for my feedback and markups.

My biggest feedback is that your resume is too wordy and needs some work on formatting and spacing. I think you have a lot to show for yourself but it gets missed in the way it's currently being presented.

Keep up the great work and good luck with your senior year! If you want to revise your resume and have me take a look at it again I'm more than happy to do that.

    Fatima,
Once I finally go through your resume I could tell you were a strong candidate, however I would revise your resume layout to make it easier to read. It took me too long to find the information I needed and as a hiring manager I would have given up after 10 seconds. With a good resume format, you will definitely stand out.

    Evan,
Overall you have a great resume. Layout is great. Skills are great. The biggest problem is that I have no idea what kind of job you would be applying to. I assume from your resume that you want to be a surveyor. If that is true, then dont make changes. But if not true, find a way to share what you are actually interested in getting into.

    Hi Sophia Olmeda,

Your resume was already in very good shape, well organized, and easy to navigate.

Some minor things you could do to improve it further:

    • Great job in customizing your LinkedIn URL! I personally review most resumes now digitally, so if you can make this a working/clickable URL, that would be great.
    • For your objective, is there a specific time you would be available to start this internship (i.e. May 2023)? If so, I would add this to your objective.
    • I would add what your GPA is out of (i.e. 3.59 / 4.00).
    • For relevant coursework, I would write the full name out of classes if you can fit them. Many engineering firms use AI now for the first review of resumes and I am unsure if they would recognize all of these abbreviations.
    • For your Lab Assistant role, can you add some quantitative information here? Even just an approximate of how many performance tests you have run would clarify the scope of your role
    • Congrats on 1st place at ASCE CI Student Days! If it is like when I attended many years ago, I would recommend adding something about that you presented your proposal in front of a panel of construction professionals.
    • For your Programming Software & Tools, I would also add the latest version you are familiar with (i. e. AutoCAD 2018).
    • For Organizations, do you have any leadership roles in any of these professional organizations on campus? I would love to see this information included on your resume and learn more about your interests like cooking during the interview.

Good job, and I hope this helps!

    Hi Isha Dogra,

Your resume was already in great shape, well organized, and easy to navigate.

Some minor things you could do to improve it further:

    • While I enjoy the statement at the top of your resume, I would much rather you SHOW me how you are a self-starter through your experience, research, and leadership than TELL me. You did this well on how you showed me how you are improving operational efficiency throughout.
    • For your Skills, I would also add the latest version you are familiar with (i. e. AutoCAD 2018).
    • For Essential skills, I would love to see these instead incorporated throughout your experiences – For example, to win the Bright Idea Competition, did this involve public speaking or using your planning and organization skills?
    • To balance out the bottom half of your resume, you could move the dates for your Leadership/Service and Honors and Awards to be aligned similar to the dates above in your Work Experience and Research and Projects.
    • While hobbies are great, I would much rather you use that space in your Leadership/Service section to show me how you are self-starter or a quick learning engineer or even how you have incorporated your passion for environment sustainability into these roles!
    • Love seeing that you are planning to obtain your EIT certification soon! I would personally remove "References upon request" from this line, as most organizations will ask you if they need them as part of the job application.

Good job, and I hope this helps!

    Hi  Laxmi Paneru,

Your resume was already in excellent shape, well organized, and easy to navigate.

Some minor things you could do to improve it further:

    • I would love to see more quantitative information throughout your experience. For example, the street improvements in New Mexico – were they for 1 block or 50 blocks? Approximate square footage would also be a great way to give me a better idea of scope. With 6 years of experience, feel free to use 2 pages to expand your experience section a bit more with quantitative information!
    • Similar to work experience, I would love for your Research and TA experience to include more numbers like how many students you were teaching at one time!
    • For your Skills, I would also add the latest version you are familiar with (i. e. AutoCAD 2018). I particularly use primarily Bentley products, so I like to know if folks have experience using the most recent version of OpenRoads 10.10.01 vs. MicroStation.
    • You might have taken it off for this submission, but I would recommend including your PE License # when submitting your resume as I include mine on my resume.
    • Similar to your LinkedIn URL, are you able to link your publications URLs as well?

Great job, and I hope this helps!

Hi Md. Rifat Bin Ahmed Majumdar,

Your resume was already in good shape. I didn't see a response in the thread to my question, so here are some minor things you could do to improve it further for applying to jobs specifically in the United States based on my personal experience.

    • Remove photo and entire Personal Information section
    • So happy to see that you are a member of so many awesome professional organizations! Do you hold any leadership positions with any of them? If so, I would love to see them highlighted in your resume.
    • For your Skills, I would also add the latest version you are familiar with (i. e. AutoCAD 2018).
    • I would expand your Experience section to tell me more quantitively what you have completed during your five years of experience and more than 50 projects. For example, the structural components you mentioned you have designed – are they for a small two-story residential building or a 30-story commercial building. A range of general construction cost of the projects could also be helpful if that is easier for you to include.
    • While the professional training/workshops section can be helpful to see what trainings you have attended, I would much rather see on your resume more about HOW you are using these trainings in your experiences and projects!

Good job, and I hope this helps!

No problem! If you are applying for jobs in  Bangladesh, a multi-page resume is fine, especially since the photo and Personal Information section do take up a lot of room. Good luck with your job search!

It would be interesting for intercontinental affairs, that International ASCE Members specify which part of the world you are wishing to be engaged and working years ahead.  See for local restrictions, some other countries might have another compliances systems that would poses difficulties. Be ready for overcome obstacles if you believe in yourself and your work! Suggestions:
-including a physical address is optional, so you can remove it if you'd like
-Reword the into line to start with "I am a transportation engineer" (remove "talented). The rest of your resume and any interviews that follow should demonstrate the talent. Describing yourself as talented may not come across as intended.
-Add a period at the end of your last sentence in your professional qualification section.
-Consider changing "Professional Qualifications" to "Objective Statement"
-If you are registered as a PE in CT, include your license number for reference
-I wouldn't list Microsoft Office since that is more of an assumed skill in today's workforce
-Under work experience, consider consolidating it under "BL Companies" and then listing the date ranges for each position since the rest of the text is basically the same.

    General:
I like the format you've chosen. It looks clean and professional, and the font is easy to read. The use of bold makes it nice for someone trying to skim to whichever section they are looking for.

    Suggestions:
-Having your personal address included is optional. I would delete that and increase the font size on the remaining contact information. If someone prints it off, the current font size is pretty small.
-I wouldn't have just part of the heading in red. I would either make them all red or just go with black.
-Under education, I would say "Ph.D. student" instead of just "Ph.D." so that it isn't misinterpreted as saying you already have your Ph.D.
-On your Ph.D. dates, I would write it as "Aug 2022 - present"
-On the master's degree, I would leave off the specialized courses portion.
-You can leave your GPA off your undergrad since you have further education beyond that now.
-On the bachelor's degree, I would leave off the specialized courses portion.
-In general, I would make the gray text darker; it is a little difficult to read compared to the rest.
-I would remove the Honors & Awards section.
-The bold fonts in the Skills section seem random/unclear
-I would remove the "personal skills" list
-I would remove the extracurricular activities section since most of them are several years back or don't add much substance to the resume content.

Ideally, a resume should be one page maximum for early career and possibly 2 pages for those with decades of experience. I think you can keep a lot of the education and experience content you have in your basic resume (besides what I specifically suggested removing) and then delete the less relevant experience items out of a copy before submitting to companies/institutions depending on what position you are seeking.

Best of luck as you finish your doctoral studies!

    Suggestions/comments:
-Typically I wouldn't expect to see all the grade information, but if that is expected in your area then it is fine to keep it.
-under the internship section, "June" should be capitalized
'Under the summer internship description I would start with "Interned with NHAI and CAMMON Engineers" instead of saying "Been and intern under"
-I think the winder internship is supposed to say "1 month"
-I would remove the extra-curricular activities section of the resume since it does not add much relevant content for a potential employer
-Consider reformatting the skills section to not take up so much space since the whole right-hand side is blank
-Typically in the States a resume should be limited to one page, but I do not know if that is the expectation in your region. I suggest asking a professor or professional in your area to see what is expected/typical.

Remember to "customize" your resume to the stakeholders (depending upon local culture).  I do not know whether you are seeking an American Professional Appointment or Employment elsewhere.  Perhaps you could indicate your willingness to relocate?!  What do you think about Artificial Intelligence?

Style -- This type of resume is often called a "box" resume.  For Example -- Information is brought into fields via "cut and paste" methodology.  It is easy to mass produce and (as such) difficult to manage.  It is also called a "cookie cutter" resume.

Format -- Page Breaks need to be sympathetic to the reader and not be exercised at random.  Please be more generous on page two and adopt natural breaks.

My comment and concern really has to do with format.  It is rushed.  Please customize your resume to the stakeholders.  For example -- kindly indicate if you are willing to relocate.  What do you think of Artificial Intelligence?

Style -- this resume is often called a "box" resume.  For example -- easily developed via "cut and paste" methodology, however difficult to manage via mass production.  At least try to publish natural breaks such as "certified courses."  This section is fragmented and there is plenty of space on page two.  I understand the ease in writing, however please bring some uniqueness that sets you apart from others based upon your accomplishments and expertise and skills.  Look at some of the other resumes within the thread and benchmark them.  You will soon get the hang of writing them.  Practice Practice Practice!!

    Shivaji,

Overall, a very solid resume but I have a few comments to assist you.  In the "Summary" section, which many times I see named "Objective", you are very wordy.  I would limit this to 2 sentences - let your resume describe your experience.  Leave the sentence in there about being a Masters student - in fact, I believe this should be the first sentence followed by the sentence that starts with "passionate".  Another comment - you list your GPA for your undergraduate work, but not your Masters work.  Either include both or neither.  Under your "Maharashtra" experience, reword "found out about" to "experienced".  Your resume is excellent, just make sure to elevate your writing to a technical level since you are applying for an Engineering position.  Best of luck to you in your future.

    Soe,

Excellent resume with a plethora of experience.  How can you make yourself stand out from other applicants?  Add an Objective statement - what type of career are you looking for?  Are you looking for a summer internship or a full-time position?  I think adding an Objective statement will assist your resume because you have a great deal of experience and sometimes, hiring managers do not have sufficient time to read every resume thoroughly.  Also, I do not think it is necessary to include your DOB on your resume.

Best of luck to you in the future.

    Tugsdelger,

Your experience and education are very diverse, covering a wide spectrum of topics so I think the top of your resume would benefit from an opening "Objective" statement - letting the reviewers know "what type of career and discipline are you looking for a career in?"  In addition, as you are applying for different positions with different firms or government agencies, re-write this objective to be tailored to the advertisement you are responding to.  Your experience, education and multi-lingual abilities provide you the ability to apply for a wide variety of positions but as a hiring manager, I would like to see what is your career path?  I would also expand the explanation of your PhD program as this is a great achievement and will attract future employers.

Best of luck to you in the future.

    Chiyan,

I think your resume suffers from too much information - I do not think all of the test scores or the section from Saint Too Sear Rogers is necessary.  Without an internship, you should consolidate this to 1 page and include a statement at the top of your resume "looking for my first internship opportunity".  Instead of all the other grades, include your GPA from Engineering school.  Your skills section can be consolidated also.  With resumes, sometime less is more, especially for hiring managers reviewing many submissions.  I hope my comments help.

All the best to you in the future.

Thank you for posting your resume.  I have taken up a mentoree role from Nigerian Principles.

Your overall form on the resume seems to be well-formed.  My first deterrent is the place and time.  Meaning, it is not simple to look into the "rocket".

A suggestion is to write a blurb which would be the footer, like a Haiku-poem, to print neatly at the last space.  Describe your 'remedy, machine, involvement in the United Nations, etc.'  What can lead you back into the document?

    Alessandro,

Very aesthetically pleasing resume. The majority of my comments are on the wording or phraseology you used. Try to think of your resume as a story of what you have done so far. The intended audience of this story is your future employer. Try to include anything that your think will make you stand out and explain all your attributes but leave out anything that will confuse the reader.

A very strong start and keep up the good work!

WoW -- I am so grateful to have connected with you.  Certainly the pathway to a top notch career and please continue to build upon your success (and learn from your failure).  Yes, be willing to try new ventures!!  Here are some thoughts --->>

Sustainability and low embodied carbon are HOT at this time, however be ready for the next wave of ideas.  Try to juggle them -- it is difficult for everyone!!  Look into robotics and artificial intelligence and simulation and prototype modeling as these areas of Civil Engineering (and Leadership and Management) will be around over your career.  Expand into other Professional Organizations, too.  I will leave the choice to you.

Bridge Underpinning -- Talk about the dollar value of the project, size of the team, impact on stakeholders, community outreach, permits, special equipment (Drones) utilized.

    Certifications -- EIT??  Other??

Career Development -- Name Guest Speakers if prominent.  Did Queen Elizabeth Speak?  You know what I am driving at.  Leverage yourself a little more.

Student Government -- Name your most prominent success story.  I orchestrated Concrete Canoe Day?  I orchestrated a Great American Shake Out Day?  I orchestrated Wooden Structure Day?

Professional References -- Collect them and continue along your pathway.

Please keep in touch and let me know how you are doing!!

    Hello David,

Thank you very much for your comments and suggestions. I greatly appreciate you support of my career path so far and for you taking the time to review my resume. I have written some comments below and some follow up questions that I would greatly appreciate a response to when you get an opportunity.

I am currently in another sustainable engineering course and we talked briefly about embedded carbon and we will be talking next week specifically about sustainability in civil engineering materials (concrete and steel primarily), which I am looking forward to. Do you have any recommendations of sustainable engineering minded organizations or committees/ institutes within ASCE?

With my engineering project experience, if I expand on the bridge underpinning project, do you think it would be best if I removed one of the other projects I have completed? I felt like they encompassed a variety of skills which is why I have retained them all, but I cut out some details in order to fit them in.

I am still in my junior year at Villanova, so I have not collected any certifications yet. I am planning to take the FE and earn my EIT in about a year, but how do you recommend incorporating that into my resume? Should I add a new section or does it fit into a section that I already have?

Lastly, with professional references, is this a section I should be adding to my resume or is this more so something that I should prepare so that I have it ready when the time comes to utilize them?

I greatly appreciate the feedback and support you provided! This has been tremendously helpful and I am excited about the opportunity to improve my resume. I look forward to connecting with you again in the near future.

    Thank you,
    Andrew

    Amer:

Here are my thoughts on your resume.  Content is excellent, however recommend that certain areas be expanded upon with more specific detail relevant to your accomplishments and contributions.

Question -- How did you deal with time delays on your past activities?  Earned Value Management, Return on Investment, Stakeholder Pressure or other.

Junior Highway Experience -- How many people did you supervise?  Was the task delegated to you?

Quality Control -- distinguish between field sampling and laboratory testing and analysis and report writing and client interface.

Website Amman BRT -- This does nothing for you on the resume.  The reviewer will need to navigate throughout a huge web and typically does not have this time.  Rather, speak about your accomplishments in lieu of going by the company name to speak for you.

Social Media -- Be more specific.  Select one or two articles that make you successful.  Select one or two activities that you have leveraged your skills.

Petra Express -- Be more specific on Quality Assurance.  What impact did you have on the outcome?

Skills -- List publications.  Public Speaking Events should enumerate upon topics spoken and size of audience.

Certifications -- P.E.???  Construction Manager???  Other???

    Kindly number the pages.

    All the best,

    David

3.9 / 4.0 GPA -- How do you support the high caliber mark?  Be prepared to talk about this aspect within the interview.  Additionally, many interviews will ask How do you have fun?  {Diversity of Life and Diversity of Work}.  We are checking up upon Leadership Skills and Management Skills and People Skills and so on and so forth.

Publications -- ???  Try to write a "letter to the editor" insofar as touching upon this aspect.

    All the best,

    David

    Harrison:

I would like to help you connect your knowledge, skills and abilities to your achievements.   Here are my thoughts --->>

Wonderful, however please quickly "pivot" beyond and into your graduation {transition now by applying skills to real world activities}.  Avoid "global" statements such as numerous leadership workshops {list one or two specific ones} and Industry connections {list one or two by topic}.  What are your thoughts about relocation?  {West Coast versus East Coast}.

Skills -- Please delineate "communication" insofar as public speaking and writing.  What was the topic?  How many within the audience?

Excel Platform -- Can you interpret schedules?

Are you creative?  Explain the stakeholder involvement.

Are you innovative?  Explain the stakeholder involvement.

Irvine Medical -- Did this enable you to learn about being a "first" responder?  Did this help you with critical thinking management?  Did this help you with supply chain theory within the health field?  Did you learn to be agile?  Did you learn QA / QC with regard to transporting samples?

    All the best,

    David

    Hi Jude,
    • For your work experience date, update to "Aug 2021 - Present"
    • Try to describe all of your experiences by starting with an "action word" such as, "Assess and review project designs," "Design Pipe-Rack foundations and Equipment Foundations"
    • I suggest adding a Software section for any programs that you have proficiency in.

    Hi Mohammad,
    • I suggest adding in specifically what your tasks and accomplishments were for your projects under Education.
    • The portfolio and certificate links are a very neat addition!
    • Great photo, but I would recommend leaving it off of your resume!

    Hi!
    • I like the visual format!
    • I suggest reducing the space at the top of the page so that you can easily separate your Presentations section into bullet points.
    • An adjacent tip- you can rename your Linkedin personal link to be a shorter link!
    • Very impressive accomplishments!

    Hi Justin,
    • I suggest rewording your bullet points to give yourself a bit more credit! "Prepare plans, specifications, and engineer estimates on assigned projects, supporting capital and operations budget programs under PM."
    • "Ensure compliance…" (People will understand that as an Engineer 1, a manager is still reviewing your work.)
    • Be sure to add any society memberships or participation roles (ASCE, etc.)
    • Add software proficiencies or skills!

Very Unique!!  Not sure as to how the "red" color will be received throughout Industry.  And, the black ribbon.  I have utilized red as a sub-activity item with significant success, however not as a prominent item.  Something to certainly follow....

    Greetings An Khang,

Your resume is very strong, You are finishing in four years;  your objective might say what type if opportune you are detailing your resume.

Revise some words, 'eager' sounds more seasia than say eastEurope.  I recommend remembering a literature that defines the words as 'enthusiastic to engage', 'toughness practice', 'strong-business mind'.

in the times of our Vice President, I recommend delivering on your complexity the simple values.

    Hi Tiffany,

Happy to help!  Great to see you're getting an early start on your career planning.  You've got a solid resume that would benefit from more specifics. Relevant details can bring your experiences to life and differentiate you from the crowd.

Can you be more specific about your objective?  Is there a particular type of company you are targeting, or particular types of experience you'd like to gain?  This early in your degree program, I understand the desire not to limit yourself.  However, defining your interests can help demonstrate that you're a great fit for the company you hope to join.  If you don't have that clarity yet, that's fine, but it's something to work towards! Dig into ASCE's resources to learn more about different types of civil engineering jobs.
Can you be more specific about your experience?  How many students did you work with, and in what kind of environments (1:1, groups, etc.)?  How big was your project team?  What kind of local events did you help with, and how often?  Focus on the results that you were able to achieve in your roles.  What made you stand out?  Many of your extracurricular experiences are group efforts, which shows teamwork, but it's not always clear what your specific contribution was.  Make sure you describe what you made possible for these organizations, not just what the organization did.  You should use a consistent verb tense throughout.  I recommend "-ed" instead of "-ing" endings to reinforce that you are describing your accomplishments, not just your duties.

The "soft skills" you list in the right column of your skills section may be better incorporated into the experience section, where you can connect them with specific accomplishments.  That way, the hiring manager isn't just taking you at your word.  For instance, did you meet deadlines in your Timber-Strong project? That speaks to time management.  Also, word choices are powerful.  Are the words you're using are strong enough to capture the full scope of what you accomplished?  Did you merely communicate, or were you collaborating or problem-solving?  What were you communicating about?  Were you planning, organizing, or leading something?  Don't forget adverbs! Was your communication timely? clear? persuasive?

Finally, here are some minor clarifications that might be helpful to the reader:

      • Use "Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ" for your teaching assistant role. Without the University identified, I thought it might be a STEM high school at first.
      • Use "Timber-Strong Design Build Competition" and indent the two following bullets below the heading
      • List the sponsoring organization for the scholarships, and consider identifying the basis on which they were awarded (e.g., academic merit, community service, etc.).  I wouldn't use future dates; either list the initial date awarded, or "to present."
And don't forget to spell check! (relevant, physics have typos)

Please feel free to reply if any of my responses bring up additional questions for you.

    Best,

    Ashley
