I share your concerns, Keith, regarding ANNIE. Although it is ancient, the scripting capability makes it so versatile that I still use it all the time. Since I have such a large library of scripts, I am loathe to start over again with another program, particularly since I have not seen any good options that are as easy to use for what I need to do.
To work around the 64-bit issue, I open a Windows XP mode window in Win7. This works pretty well. A little cumbersome but since the XP mode window is able to copy to and from networked drives of Win7, it is not that bad. You can download XP mode from Windows website. Unfortunately, XP mode is no longer supported in Win10 so this solution's days are numbered. I expect there are other emulators for Win10 but they may be less well integrated than Windows version.
Good luck
