From your question it appears you would like to self-study in the subjects of Structural Steel and Connection Design. My recommendation is that, as a starting point, you could use the following reference material :
1) Unified Design of Steel Structures
by Louis F. Geschwindner
Third Edition
2) Structural Steel Design
by Jack C. McCormac
Sixth Edition
3) AISC American Institute of Steel Construction Manual 15th Edition
Note that you do not need both references 1) and 2). Those are for FYI only. Personally, I would recommend reference 1) to a beginner. reference 3) is a must; you need to have the AISC Manual to perform calculations in compliance with the current codes.
When you get more familiar with these topics, you probably should consider to join the AISC organization which is the leader professional society in the subjects of steel and connection design.
If you have anymore questions please let me know. Good Luck!

Subject: What are the best resources to teach myself structural steel design?
Hie everyone. I want to develop my design skills as I didn't get the opportunity to work with a design consultancy during my internship. I want to learn more about structural steel designs and connections on my own. Do you have any recommendations about any books, software and other resources I can use to help teach myself?
