  • 1.  Unbalanced Snow Load of Unsymmetrical Gable Roof

If I have an unsymmetrical gable roof of 45 deg on one side and 25 deg on the other,  do I still need to consider unbalanced snow blowing onto the 25 deg side from the 45 deg side, or am I not required to by code since one side is above the 30.2 deg limit per ASCE 7-16 7.6-1?

When in doubt, be conservative. . . Unless being conservative (piled onto more conservative assumptions) makes for an astronimcal design. Having said that and looking at the commentary, it would seem you need to consider unbalanced on the 25°(ALT+176) side because it is between flat and 30° and suceptible to drift. You would not need to consider it on the 45° side per the code.
