Nur H. Orak is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering at Marmara University. Prior to moving to Turkey Dr. Orak worked as a Postdoctoral Associate at The National Energy Technology Laboratory and Carnegie Mellon University in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Pittsburgh. She earned her BS (2010) in Environmental Engineering and her M.Sc. (2012) in Environmental Science and Engineering from Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Turkey. She earned her Ph.D. (2016) under supervision of Prof. Mitchell J. Small in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. Orak is an environmental engineer with a multi-disciplinary research background. Her research interests include statistical modeling, environmental risk assessment, drinking water quality, air quality, and life cycle assessment.
Orak has a long history of leadership positions with several technical and non-technical NGOs in Turkey and the U.S.A. Currently, she is the chair of the American Society of Civil Engineers-Environmental Water Resources Institute New Professionals Council and a board member of the Student Council and Women-Water Nexus. She is the former vice-president of the Turkish Harp Association.
