Bio:
Dr. Guoming Lin is Vice President and Senior Geotechnical Consultant with Terracon Consultants in Savannah, Georgia. Since 1993, he has led geotechnical engineering efforts across the region, providing consulting services for major projects including the Georgia Ports, Kinder Morgan Elba Island LNG Terminal, Gulfstream Aerospace, and SCAD. He is a licensed Geotechnical Engineer (G.E.) in California and a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in multiple states, as well as a Board-Certified Geotechnical Engineer (BC.GE) through the Academy of Geo-Professionals. Dr. Lin has authored more than 30 technical papers and is the 2025 recipient of both the George F. Sowers Piedmont Award from the Geo-Institute Georgia Chapter and the ENR Southeast Legacy Award.
Abstract:
 Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA)—the largest industrial development in Georgia and Hyundai’s first dedicated mass-production electric vehicle facility—features a highly connected, automated, and flexible manufacturing system optimized through AI and data-driven processes. Terracon provided geotechnical engineering services to the Joint Development Authority and Thomas & Hutton for site design and collaborated with Hyundai Engineering America (HEA) and multiple civil and structural engineers on all building foundations. In addition, Terracon performed testing services throughout site work and building construction. This presentation highlights the geotechnical investigations, innovative foundation solutions, and key challenges encountered during the design and construction of this landmark project.
