Description

WHEN: September 16th, 19:00 (Jerusalem Time)

DURATION: 30-40 minutes

AGENDA:

Civil engineers imagine, design and build the infrastructure that supports economic activity, public safety, and quality of life. Those systems must now be built with recognizing the need for sustainability and resilience in a world of limited resources and ever increasing extreme events. The presentation emphasizes that today’s decisions will affect communities, the environment, and infrastructure performance into the next millennium.

The presentation details ASCE’s vision for a sustainable future through ethics, policy, standards, and practical tools. It covers the updated code of ethics, sustainability policy statements, ASCE’s Pathways to Resilient Communities toolkit, and the ASCE/CI 73-23 Standard Practice for Sustainable Infrastructure. The presentation also highlights the need to modernize aging infrastructure, apply current climate science, and expand sustainability efforts internationally.

Participants can expect to gain important insights that allow them to translate sustainability from an ideal into practice. It has a focus on how ASCE and its partners in the sustainability space guide engineers to do the right project, do the project right, and evaluate performance across lifecycle, resilience, carbon, and community outcomes. It also shows how policy, standards, and advocacy work together to support safer and more sustainable infrastructure.
