Description

Webinar Description - Hosted by Institution of Civil Engineers Americas and ASCE Energy Division

Offshore and onshore pipelines serve as the critical arteries of the global energy sector, facilitating the seamless transportation of hydrocarbon fluids. During the engineering phase, these systems must undergo rigorous evaluation against a spectrum of complex, multifaceted loadings. This includes the intricate fluid-structure-soil interaction at the seabed, alongside dynamic hydrodynamic forces exerted by waves and deep-ocean currents. To ensure the long-term structural integrity and durability required to withstand extreme environmental events—such as hurricanes or high-pressure/high-temperature (HPHT) conditions—advanced numerical methodologies are required. This presentation examines how Finite Element Analysis (FEA) serves as a cornerstone for solving these nonlinear challenges, ensuring the safe delivery of resources from subsea reservoirs to processing facilities.

About the speaker: Rudraprasad Bhattacharyya, PhD, CEng MICE, PE, F.SEI, ENV SP

Rudraprasad is a registered Professional Engineer and a Chartered Civil Engineer with over fifteen years of research, teaching and consulting experience in energy and aerospace industries. He specializes in solving complex, multidisciplinary mechanical/structural integrity issues. His expertise includes use of advanced engineering technology in areas such as onshore and offshore pipelines, subsea structures under HPHT, blast analysis of pressure vessels and containments, and damage analysis of fiber composite structures. Dr. Bhattacharyya authored several articles published in peer-reviewed journals and presented in several conference venues in India, Canada, and USA.
