Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Pavement Design, Construction, and Management
This event does not qualify for professional development hours or continuing education credits.

Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Pavement Design, Construction, and Management is currently a hot topic with many highway agencies. Relatively easy access to big data, computing efficiency, and low costs contributed to the advancements of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in this field. We are currently in a stage where traditional pavement engineering systems are transforming into complex AI adaptive systems. The technical panel will discuss this paradigm shift and the exciting changes to pavement infrastructure systems and their builders, operators, and managers. This session will focus on smart pavement infrastructures, highway life cycle data adaptation for AI implementations, and using AI for continuous monitoring and maintenance of infrastructure assets.

The 90-minute virtual event includes three technical presentations and Q&A followed by a student research competition. Our panel of experts includes researchers and practitioners in the field of pavement engineering and from across the country. The first presenter, Mr. Miguel Dickson from Roadbotics will present Using AI for Continuous Monitoring and Maintenance of Infrastructure Assets; Dr. Ahmed Faheem from Temple University will present his findings on Highway Life Cycle Data Adaptation for AI Implementations; and the final panelist, Dr. William G. Buttlar from the University of Missouri will present Smart Pavement Infrastructures. The virtual series concludes with a student research competition on AI Applications in Transportation. Competition finalists will have the opportunity to give a short presentation of their work and the winner of the competition will be announced.

AI-Enabled Next Generation Transportation Systems
Student Competition  Deadline to Submit an Abstract is November 10th

As part of the
AI-Enabled Next Generation Transportation Systems Virtual Event series, T&DIs Artificial Intelligence Committee is hosting a virtual student competition. The competition is designed to showcase graduate-undergraduate students' research in Transportation Engineering with the use of Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning. Students will have the opportunity to engage with industry and academy professionals and share their research with them.
