University of Maryland Shore Regional Medical Center Construction

Overview

ASCE will host a site tour of the UM Shore Regional Medical Center construction project in Easton, Maryland. This state-of-the-art medical facility represents a major investment in regional healthcare infrastructure. The new hospital will replace the existing downtown Easton facility and is designed to enhance access to advanced medical services for residents throughout the Eastern Shore region. Participants will observe key aspects of the active construction site and learn about project scope, design features, construction challenges, and anticipated community impact.

Project Highlights

·                  Largest Single Construction Project on Maryland’s Eastern Shore: The scale of the hospital campus, infrastructure improvements, and building systems make this one of the most significant standalone construction efforts in the region’s history.

·                  Extensive Geothermal Well Field: Installation of one of the largest geothermal systems on the Eastern Shore, consisting of hundreds of vertical wells to provide high-efficiency heating and cooling. This system significantly reduces long-term operational energy demand and supports sustainability objectives.

·                  230-Acre Campus Development: Large-scale earthwork, utility extensions, stormwater management facilities, roadway improvements, and phased building pad preparation.

·                  Modern Acute Care Facility: Construction of a new hospital tower and supporting outpatient and ancillary facilities designed to meet current healthcare standards and long-term community growth.
