Presenter:

Dr. Navid Jafari – Texas A&M University

Dr. Navid Jafari is an associate professor in the Zachry Dept of Civil and Environmental at Texas A&M University. His research is broadly focused on environmental, coastal, and marine geotechnics, with an emphasis on performance of infrastructure during extreme events. Dr. Jafari is active in the Geo-Insitute, specifically the Embankment, Dams, and Slopes technical committee. He recently co-chaired the ASCE Geo-Institute Geo-Extreme 2025 conference in November in Long Beach, CA.

Topic:

Modernizing Levee Safety: Technology-Driven Approaches for Flood Control Inspections

This presentation will explore the efficacy of novel technologies to advance levee inspections. This includes harnessing remote sensing, UAVs, street view, and LiDAR to monitor changes in levees from annual inspections to during extreme events like floods and hurricanes.
