The US Access Board and the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professions (APBP) will be hosting a Regional Accessibility Training and Peer exchange on Friday, February 7th, from 9AM to noon. This is an exciting opportunity to learn about inclusive planning and accessible street design, so I wanted to invite my fellow ASCE members.
The training will feature a keynote by the Access Board's Executive Director, David Capozzi, and two interactive panel discussions. The first panel will discuss strategies for involving older adults and people with vision and hearing disabilities in street planning and design processes. The second panel will discuss strategies for making separated bike lanes with parking, loading/unloading zones, and transit stops accessible to people with disabilities. The panels will include Access Board staff, local government officials, members of local disability commissions, technical experts, and others in a robust conversation covering key accessibility issues, legal requirements, and best practices related to each topic.
Audience members will have opportunities to ask questions and interact with the panelists during the training. If you already have questions or topics for discussion, they can be submitted via this short, two-question survey:
