Structures Congress

As Structures Congress 2020 will be here before we know it, I thought I would start a thread dedicated to our host city - St. Louis, Missouri! 

Does anyone have any questions about the city? Maybe recommended places to eat or visit?

If you get here early, I would suggest some sight-seeing.  Of course, there is the Arch, but there are great museums in Forest Park like the St. Louis Art Museum, the Missouri History Museum and the Science Center.  Good eating areas are South Grand (south of Arsenal), the Hill, the Grove area.  The Hill has a number of notable Italian restaurants.  South Grand has King and I (Thai), Natasha's (Mediterranean, but also a gin bar), Grand Pho.  Around North Grand and Lindell there is Vito's, Triumph Grill and the Fountain on Locust.  The Missouri Botanical Garden will be a great sight to see.

Join the PR Committee for the inaugural walk of the Structural Engineering Walking Tour!  We'll be meeting in the lobby of Union Station Hotel at 4 PM on Sunday the 5th.  Extra incentive is the happy hour that Hilti is sponsoring at Ballpark Village at the end of the tour.

For those of you who can't join the group walk, the app is live and now available on PocketSights.  ​It's a great 3 mile walking tour of the engineering marvels of St. Louis, starting and ending at the conference hotel (Union Station.)  It's a great way to stretch your legs after a full day of sessions.

If anyone have their family along or just looking for some fun, check out the City Museum ( citymuseum.org ).  They have a 10 story slide and a ferris wheel on the roof.  There are climbing cages made of rebar and plenty of examples which show if you put enough weld on something it will typically stay in place.

Brittany, I highly recommend Ted Drewes and Crown Candy Kitchen, these are institutions here in STL. If you want fancy there's the Soda Fountain at the Union Station which is pretty new in town.
