    Olá membros do Brasil!

Segue convite do Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) sobre participação em comitê técnico:

The Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) of ASCE is seeking members for the ASCE Task Committee on Dynamic Analysis of Nuclear Structures:

Task Committee on Dynamic Analysis of Nuclear Structures

The chair for this subcommittee is Brian McDonald, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE, F.SEI, Exponent, Mountain View, CA. The Vice Chair is Andrew Whittaker, Ph.D., P.E., S.E., F.ASCE, F.SEI, University at Buffalo, Buffalo, NY.

The ASCE Task Committee on Dynamic Analysis of Nuclear Structures is reconstituting its roster to begin work on updates for the continual improvement of ASCE 4 and 43, noting that these two standards will be merged into one standard.

     Major updates include:

    1.                       Merge and integrate ASCE 4 and ASCE 43 into one document

    2.                       Develop a clear pathway to implement risk-informed, performance-based design

    3.                       Eliminate provisions and commentary best addressed by other Standards Development Organizations (e.g., ASME)

    4.                       Eliminate provisions and commentary that are either outdated or rarely used

    5.                       Ensure that advanced and micro-reactors are addressed (a request from the NRC)

    6.                       Point to other ASCE consensus standards (e.g., ASCE 41) wherever appropriate (an ASCE direction)

    7.                       Revise quality requirements, utilizing commercial quality standards, where appropriate and sufficient

    8.                       Revisit inclusion of Seismic Design Category 2 structures based on industry feedback

Applications are being accepted until Thursday, February 13, 2025.

Practicing engineers, researchers, building officials, contractors and construction product representatives with expertise with safety-related nuclear structures are welcome. Younger professionals are also highly encouraged to join, as specific roles allow opportunities on the committee regardless of experience level such as networking with more experienced members.

ASCE fosters an inclusive environment for all committee members, valuing their unique strengths, perspectives, and experiences. We encourage all eligible candidates, including those who have been historically marginalized, protected veterans, women, and individuals with disabilities, to apply.

If you are interested in joining this committee, please submit an application.  Select "SEI" from the Institute drop down and then "Nuclear Standards (ASCE/SEI 1, 4, & 43)" indicating "DANS" in the specific subcommittee box. Indicate the Membership Category for which you are applying. Voting members are expected to be actively engaged in the updating of this standard (ASCE 92) and vote on each ballot, requiring a significant time commitment. Final membership assignments (i.e., voting or associate) will be made by the Chair and Vice Chair by February 28, 2025. Associate members can be accepted until balloting begins. Contact Jordanna Bucciere or Bianca Augustin with any questions.
