On May 26, 2026, the ASCE Lebanon Section, in collaboration with the Order of Engineers and Architects – Beirut (OEA Beirut), successfully organized a technical seminar titled:
"Vulnerability and Risk Assessment of Infrastructure under Blast Loading"
The seminar was delivered by Dr. Sary Malak, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Notre Dame University–Louaize (NDU), who shared insights from more than 20 years of professional experience in structural engineering and infrastructure protection. His presentation provided a comprehensive overview of blast effects on infrastructure, advanced vulnerability and risk assessment methodologies, design considerations, and mitigation strategies to improve the resilience of critical facilities.
The event was honored by opening remarks from Mr. Fadi Hanna, President of OEA Beirut, who emphasized the growing importance of resilient infrastructure and the relevance of this topic to the engineering profession. Dr. Talal Salem, President of ASCE Lebanon Section and Chairperson of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at NDU, highlighted that the seminar is part of ASCE Lebanon Section's ongoing commitment to providing high-quality technical activities that promote knowledge sharing and continuous professional development within the engineering community.
The seminar attracted engineers, academics, and students and concluded with an engaging discussion and networking session, fostering valuable exchanges among participants.
The ASCE Lebanon Section extends its sincere appreciation to Dr. Sary Malak, OEA Beirut, and all attendees for contributing to the success of this event. We look forward to continuing our collaboration in organizing impactful technical activities for the engineering profession.
