2026 ASCE UESI Surveying Competition Symposia RFI #7

I would like to apologize for the confusion RFI #6 had caused everyone. This is a perfect demonstration the importance of proof-reading everything you write, and do not try to post something past midnight. The judge form will be uploaded to Collaborate this weekend.

Rules Section 9.2 and Appendix A - The Field Task Resource Estimate only allows for 6 team members to complete the field tasks. Are we allowed a presenter for the Topographic Mapping Project Presentation be a 7th person who did not compete in the field tasks?
No. The maximum number of team members is 6 people. The members participating in the Field Tasks or the Topographic Mapping Project Presentation have to be among the members within that team. However, the team is allowed to have members only partake in presentation or field tasks and not both.
-
Rules Section 8.4 - The rule states that "the use of any civil design software is recommended for the topographic mapping project." Please, could we use other mapping and computer aided drafting software alongside for better visualization (such as ArcGIS Pro and Surfer for this task), or must it necessarily be civil design software alone?
Other software are allowed as long as the Topographic Map are generated by students to fulfill the specific requirements in the judging form. Civil design software is a suggestion based on popularity and free academic licensing provided for most universities.
-
Rules Section 2.2 states "Each team may consist of up to six (6) total team members for the field task components of the competition. All of those team members (up to six) may participate in the topographic mapping project presentation"
Can team members that do not participate in competition tasks present the topographic map?
The maximum number of team members is 6 people. The members participating in the Field Tasks or the Topographic Mapping Project Presentation have to be among the members within that team. However, the team is allowed to have members only partake in presentation or field tasks and not both.

Can a current master's student who was an undergrad during this academic year (graduated during fall) still compete in the competition?
Section 2.1 Team Member Requirements stated:
Team members (those participating in the competition tasks) must be undergraduate students enrolled during all or part of the current competition academic year, members of an ASCE Student Chapter in good standing, registered participants of the student symposium, and Society Student Members of ASCE.
Since the student was an undergraduate student enrolled during part of this current competition academic year, as long as the student fulfil the other requirement stated in section 2.1, they can still compete in the competition.
Edit 1: Changed Judge Form upload location from Cerberus to Collaborate.
