  • TERZAGHI DAY 2023!

In 2016, G-I started observing Terzaghi Day, held every year on the birthday of Karl Terzaghi, the father (or grandfather, depending on who you’re talking to) of soil mechanics. The day always includes a guest speaker, and many of us make stratified food to mark the occasion. This year will be no different.

In just two weeks, join us for Terzaghi Day 2023! On Monday, Oct 2, we’ll go live at 2pm ET on the G-I Youtube channel.

Our guest speaker is John Burland of Imperial College London, a Geo-Legend for his own contributions to the field – he’s known as the engineer who saved the Tower of Pisa – and he’s also a fantastic historian of civil and geotechnical engineering. This made him a natural choice for Terzaghi Day. John will present on the life and legacy of Karl Terzaghi with a focus on how Terzaghi affected his own work – followed by Q&A from the viewers! This is a great way to learn a bit about geotechnical engineering and the history of civil engineering!
