Dr. James Soules, Ph.D., P.E., P.Eng, S.E., F.SEI, F.ASCE


Bio

J. G. (Greg) Soules, Ph.D., P.E., S.E., P.Eng. is a Senior Principal Structural Engineer and the Technical Authority for Seismic and Wind Engineering for CB&I in The Woodlands, Texas.  Responsibilities include the supervision of design engineers, management of engineering for large projects worldwide, and development of CB&I Engineering Standards on aboveground storage tanks and on the application of wind loads, seismic loads, and building codes to tank and vessel designs.  He currently serves as the Chair of the ASCE 7-28 Main Committee, the Past Chair of the National Institute for Engineering Ethics Executive Board, the Chair of the SEI Technical Community Executive Committee, and the Chair of the SEI National Technical Program Committee.  He also served as the Chair of the ASCE Energy Division Executive Committee (2012 – 2018), the Vice Chair of the ASCE 7 Main Committee (2016 and 2022 cycles), and a member of the SEI Board of Governors (2020 – 2024).  Dr. Soules earned B.S. (1979), M.S. (2009), and Ph.D. (2020) degrees in Civil Engineering from Texas Tech University and an MBA (1991) from the University of Houston.  He is a Fellow of ASCE, a Fellow of SEI, a Licensed Professional Engineer in 23 jurisdictions and a Licensed Structural Engineer in 10 jurisdictions.  Dr. Soules was named a Distinguished Engineer by Texas Tech University in 2009.  He was presented the Stephen D. Bechtel, Jr. Energy Award by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 2010 and the Walter P. Moore, Jr. Award by the Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers in 2023.  Dr. Soules joined CB&I in 1980.
