Jongseok is a Civil Engineer, specialized in Structural Engineering in Samsung Construction (Samsung C&T). He joined Samsung in February 2015, and have worked for three different building construction projects for three and a half years (3 years and 6 months) as a field construction engineer. Through his experience of structural constructions in those projects, he became more interested in Structural Engineering, and decided to convert to structural engineer.
Jongseok started Master’s course in Structural Engineering as the first step toward becoming a structural engineer in the Fall of 2018. He studies and researches earthquake engineering and seismic design at Hanyang University in Seoul, Korea. As a graduate research assistant, he conducts experimental studies on seismic performances of concrete structures related to ACI 318, and designs structural systems according to ASCE 7 with other American codes. Also, by writing articles and thesis, professional analytical writing skills were developed.
Jongseok has a strong insight into building structures cultivated through his construction experiences on various types of structures; (1) RC frame structure, open-cut foundation, (2) SRC composite structure, top down construction, (3) RC shear wall structure. He realizes problems in design stages with measuring constructability of structural systems or even details of structural elements.
Because he has worked with structural consulting engineers as a field engineer during all three projects, additionally, Jongseok learned and acquired skills to solve structural problems occurred during the construction. What he learned is not just a fragmentary problem solving skill rather a methodology to find proper and reasonable ways to deal with it.
