Notes on 7 July 2017, and 18 July 2017:
1) I have been a member of ASCE for over 30 years. I have served as chair of the ASCE Northeast Georgia Branch and on the Board for the ASCE Georgia Section, and I have served the ASCE Panel of Peer Review in Public Agencies for four on-site agency reviews (a very worthwhile experience, by the way).
2) My post as comment #4 in the thread on IPCC Additional Information was removed without my consent, and not replaced after I contacted ASCE. My post as comment #10 was held by the moderator 7 days, then posted with the discussion thread (IPCC Additional Information) closed by the moderator a few minutes later. The thread called "CLIMATE Change" was also closed at about the same time, without posting my comment submitted two days prior to its closing. My post to start a new thread simply disappeared.
Additional notes for November 2017:
3) My post in October on topic:
Prof. Ethics for ASCE Policy 488 - CO2 Greenhouse Gases
.... was withheld by the ASCE moderator for over a week and then finally posted, after my letter to ASCE, in the Public Policy community but not in the primary Environment-Oceans-Coastal-Infrastructure community.
4) My follow-up post on November 1 (blocked by moderator until Nov. 21) was a reply to the post from the two ASCE committee chairs who provided context for the ASCE policy and references. My comment was that their answer still does not provide the "relevant and pertinent information" (key citation) needed to support the statements in Policy 488 regarding initiatives to reduce CO2 emissions:
What method was used (to show CO2 causes global warming), by whom, where is this documented, and who did the review
?
Additional notes for January 2018:
(5) My post on Jan.9 is still being blocked (as of Jan. 19). My post notes that:
Contrary to Ethics Canon 3b, ASCE's statement in Policy 488 gives no reference for a valid method (showing CO2 causes warming) which would allow someone to review and check the method for quality assurance.
I point out a possible error in the undocumented logic leading to the conclusion (that CO2 causes global warming), and ask that ASCE either provide the proper references, to allow QA, or remove their undocumented Policy 488. (...more)
(6) Also, from a larger perspective, ASCE should consider the full benefit/cost of CO2 increase and emission control (not just the warming impacts and warming benefits, if any). Because CO2 increase gives major benefits due to increased food production and greening of the Earth, a full B/C is likely to show that ASCE Policy 488 has negative benefit, by a large margin.
