  • 1.  Stormwater Quality Level of Control for Artificial Turf Fields: Standards, Treatment Measures, and Research

    Hello Everyone,

I am curious to learn more about the following stormwater management related questions as they pertain to artificial turf fields:

    1. Are these fields generally considered as jurisdictional "impervious area" for the purposes of stormwater regulations? Here in Maine, the State's Stormwater Management Rules classify artificial turf fields as impervious area for jurisdictional purposes?
    2. What type of treatment measures are typically used to provide water quality level of control for the artificial turf fields?
    3. Are there any comprehensive research studies that address stormwater contaminants, including emerging contaminants like PFAS, released from artificial turf fields?

I would greatly appreciate any insight/leads/web links etc. you may provide.

Hi Kerem, It won't answer all of your questions, but this paper may be a start: https://ascelibrary.org/doi/abs/10.1061/%28ASCE%29IR.1943-4774.0000992
