    ​Colleagues,

    We were looking to connect Ductile Iron Pipe to existing Reinforced Concrete Pressure Pipe. Might anyone have any details of the joint connection or any idea how easy or difficult this may be?
    Also we are looking at making repairs of barrels of Reinforced Concrete Pressure Pipe where testing shows wires have broken, any ideas of how this may best be done?
    Any ideas of references or design guidance for the above topics?

    ​We had a project several years ago that required this. We found the Reinforced Concrete Pressure Pipe manufacturers fabricate these transition fittings.

    Hello,
    What size pipe are you needing to connect?  I know that Romac makes some couplings that are good for connecting dissimilar types of pipe under pressure and have been reliable for us in the past.

    Michael,

    MarMac Construction Products manufactures dissimilar pipe connections for various scenarios.  You may want to look into their available products at Home - MarMac Construction Products Inc.

    Although I can't speak to their long-term effectiveness since I have only recently learned about their products, perhaps someone else on here can vouch for them.  Bottom line: they have a product available, but I suggest you perform additional research before making a choice.

    If your RCP rehab includes a CIPP liner this is what I found worked for us:

    I just completed a project that included lining an ACM force main, we stubbed out a 2.25' length of DIP using Himax coupling to the end of the ACM pipe and ran the liner through the stubbed DIP. We were then able to connect DIP to DIP.

    If you are looking to repair Reinforced Concrete Pressure Pipe, I would refer you to the New Jersey Water Supply Authority and The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission in Maryland both Agencies had major problems with their use of Reinforced Concrete Pressure Pipe.  NJWSA repaired their discharge line by replacing pressure sections with steel pipe and WSSC cured their Reinforced Concrete Pressure Pipe leaks by lining the entire length with a Steel Liner.  These repairs were made in the 90's on pipe installed in the 60's.

    ​Thanks everyone for the input! 

    Based upon some of the points made we realized we may need a better understanding of exactly what is there to start with.  Unfortunately we realized we have some conflicting data on what is actually there Reinforced Concrete Pressure Pipe (RCCP) or prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP).  We have some non-destructive testing and investigations done and going on that will hopefully clear this up but it looks as if we are PCCP.

    The specific brand names on the couplings have been most helpful.  Trying to contact these manufacturers.  If anyone would have specific details or specs that are available that would be great.
