Folks:
I am using a high-resolution 2D HECRAS model to model storm flows through a proposed bridge opening with piers. I am using the SWM-EM solver to improve the model solution near the bridge piers. Is it also necessary to include turbulence modeling in the solution? Logically, it appears that this would improve the solution within the vicinity of the bridge piers. However, including turbulence mixing in past models has proven to be very computationally expensive. Furthermore, it is not clear as to what values of the mixing coefficients are recommended for design purposes.
Any advice on this type of modeling problem would be appreciated.
