The National Academies are offering a virtual panel discussion on this subject.

"As the impacts of climate change intensify, a growing number of employers are exploring ways to integrate skills in resiliency and adaptability into their workforces. From deploying renewable energy and modernizing the electric grid to designing resilient infrastructure and supporting community adaptation, workers across sectors will be central to building a climate-resilient future. This conversation will explore how colleges, universities, community colleges, and trade schools prepare learners for careers that support climate solutions. Our speakers will highlight efforts to expand educational pathways for resiliency-focused jobs while also examining how institutions are integrating competencies into a wide range of disciplines to address the skills needed to address the effects of climate change."

This is such an important initiative. Climate change is already reshaping industries, and building a workforce that understands resilience, adaptation, and sustainability is critical. It's encouraging to see educational institutions actively working to embed these competencies across disciplines and create new pathways for learners.
Education truly has a central role in preparing society for climate challenges. Integrating climate resilience skills not only into engineering or environmental programs, but also into broader fields, can help create a workforce ready to support communities, industries, and infrastructure in adapting to change.
Preparing a climate-ready workforce will require collaboration across universities, community colleges, and trade schools. I'm curious to hear how you see the balance between technical training and broader resilience skills developing in these educational pathways.
