  • 1.  Seeking Final Year Project Ideas: Structural and Transportation Focus

    Posted 28 days ago

    Hello fellow engineers,

As I gear up for my final year project in civil engineering, I'm particularly drawn to the realms of structural engineering and transportation. I believe these fields hold immense potential for innovation and impactful solutions. With that in mind, I'm reaching out to gather suggestions and insights to shape my project direction.

I'm eager to delve into a project that not only aligns with my interests but also addresses real-world challenges in these fields. Your suggestions, experiences, and advice would be immensely valuable in guiding me towards a project with meaningful impact.

Thank you for your time and support!

Dear Ahmad, I suggest you take a look at two different ideas:
    1. Structural supports for containers in industrial buildings, so the container storage optimizes the available space in the ports. It involves transportation because you have to delve into the line theory to optimize the rotation of containers.

    2. Design of UHPC bridges involving FRP bars and rebars-a design guide for less than 40 m bridges.

    Regards,
    Andrés Guzmán

How about take a stab at the topic of pier protection against vessel collision? perhaps you deep dive into an extensive literature review showing how different countries and/or US states approaches the topic as well as you can compare the differences between old and new design standards. Furthermore, consider a hypothetical case study where different solutions/approaches can be used in trying to determine the most cost/efficient solution.

    Best of luck!
