Dr. Marcelo DaSilva, Ph.D., P.E., M.ASCE





Bio

Marcelo DaSilva, Ph.D., P.E. is a Senior Structural Engineer for Burns & McDonnell, a top 10 ENR Design Firm and one of Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For. He started his career in the oil and gas industry then had a short tenure in the façade design (glazing/building) industry, and he is now fully engaged in the transportation industry as a bridge engineer. With nearly a decade of strong technical experience and background, Dr. DaSilva has become a national resource to Burns & McDonnell for delivering complex analyses and innovative solutions to clients across the nation. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and a Master and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Recife, Brazil. He has been a licensed professional engineer in the state of Texas since 2015. He has been a member of ASCE since 2013 and recently he is serving as Committee Chair with Austin Chapter on the “UT Austin Mentoring Program” as well as being a mentor to UT students himself. Dr. DaSilva is also a reviewer for the ASCE Structural and Bridge Engineering Journals. Some of his previous volunteer work includes participating in the ASCE K-12 outreach program, showing UNL’s structure laboratory to K-12 students, building bicycles with CYCLE Houston, and helping cyclists during MS 150. As the current Texas Section SEI President, he embraces the chance to lead the institute as an opportunity to increase his leadership skills while contributing to his community and peers. In his free time, Dr. DaSilva enjoys cycling, pump workouts, playing soccer, watching sports, enjoying a sunny beach, and spending time with his future wife and two sons.
