Aashiq,
Thank you for your question and work. I am a retired highway engineer and remember several attempts to squeeze more life from used oil. As noted by C. Michael Donoghue, PE, public health concerns crop up when the used oil is used for dust reduction and other uses also. Used oil is currently collected and processed to be used in several ways including as heating oil for drying asphalt aggregate. However, again public health is paramount and restrictions are in place and keep getting more scrutiny.
Your research could take a different approach by forecasting the use and predicted volumes of oil consumption after electric powered cars and trucks assume predominance.
Some questions that I have are:
- How can this resource reinvent itself?
- When will the majority of cars and light trucks convert to electric power?
- Will the oil industry transition to suppling battery exotic metals?
Whatever your choice of study, good luck and enjoy the trip.

Subject: Waste engine oil in bituminous pavement
Aashiq,
Hi and thank you for your question and work. I'm a structural engineer but am deeply involved in sustainability issues. Of particular interest in the Circular Economy (ISO TC 323) or closing the loop on the waste stream and putting waste to beneficial, long-term use.
With regard to something like repurposing waste oils two things come to mind: the economics of oil reuse and, as I'm sure others will suggest, fixing the toxics (heavy metals, benzine, etc.) in the oil. Thus far the economics of materials reuse with the burden of quality assurance and pollution controls has been a big road block to materials reuse. Of especial interest in quantifying and monetizing in some tangible fashion, community health to offset the burdens. If you can crack that nut – you are a hero.

I'm starting my research regarding use of waste engine oil in bituminous pavement. My question is what are the things I should consider while doing research on this topic? And how waste engine oil will help us to solve problems related to bituminous pavement?
It will be your most kindness by helping me regarding this topic.
