    Thanks for the though provoking question, Cody.

    Specialty conferences held in various locations worked well for me because they drew technical experts and local engineers. I could develop connections with, and pick the brains of, the experts and schmooze potential locals for future work. Branch and section meetings of ASCE also accomplished the latter for the local markets.
