As the ASCE Resume Workshop gets closer, we have come across the traditional questions between the differences of a Resume and a CV (Curriculum Vitae). This topic especially impacts international students as the difference is not as notable outside of the U.S.
I remembered back in Colombia you didn't have to have a Resume. You only require your CV or Hoja de Vida in Spanish. The CV contained all the information for a company to get to know you, and it could be as long as 2-3 pages. Here in the US, I have seen that the Resume is the standard for new graduate students applying for their first engineering job. The Resume usually being one page long most of the time.
I want to help the students to understand the difference between the CV and Resume. What other differences, aside from the length, you can contribute to help differentiate these two terms? When one is more appropriate than the other?
