I've been practicing land development engineering for 10 years now and I've seen a healthy mix of urban infill and urban sprawl projects. Since I started my own business in January, the ratio has been roughly 50/50. I have found that greenfield development lends itself to more creative license since you're pretty much starting with a blank slate while brownfield/infill development – being sited in vibrant, high-profile areas of the urban core – can offer a substantial amount of design challenge and constraint.
What is your preference when it comes to working on projects – infill or subdivision? Why?
