We had a great conversation on today's Thursday @ 3 - Shifting Interview Practices for a Virtual Setting. Thank you to @Hala Abdo, @Keval Satra, and @Anthony Puntin for sharing your thoughts with us today! Can you weigh in on this question that we were not able to address?

"How would you do project planning in such a diverse "Work from Home environment?" Would you use Smartsheet or  what app?"

Project planning as such hasn't changed much due to covid. However, the way we communicate on the projects has changed a bit. As a young engineer, I adopt to the platform/methodology that my client (internal and external) are comfortable with. Currently, I am based out of Houston office but I am involved with both Iowa and Texas projects. To get things done, I have personally become a proactive communicator and I encourage our junior staff to be proactive as well. I have used the following platforms to communicate

Internal Client Communication : I have used One Note to collaborate and track project tasks. Our team also has a Zoom Group Chat – where we discuss workload and other similar project items.

External Client Communication: We have used emails with a tweak that we send many more emails as compared to pre-covid volume. We also use zoom meetings with screenshare feature to replace the in-person meetings.

That's a very good response to the way the COVID has changed our trends. How do you and team deal with the technical complexities in your projects?, even in the face of the pandemic

In the face of the pandemic, as a Civil Engineering finalist, I believe the asynchronous system of communication is a great way to treat all pending project issues with respect to the proposed project success. In fact, I believe the asynchronous system of communication will still have a major role to play in the post pandemic era, because of its low cost and high effectiveness. Stakeholders are sent bulk of messages as regards the project and given enough quality time to respond. This system helps the team to prepare and give more prepared solution to the project cause.

Thank you for bringing that discussion.

Even though I am still in the start of my career and haven't done project planning myself. But, I think we have to address the question of who we are planning with, is it internally or with other firms/ departments.

I found Teams really helpful in communication and you can use Planner on it to set assignments.

Tracking is really important and I think archiving every once in a while will keep things organized.
