I agree with the previous post, the best source is usually the local municipality, county or state. Check the State GIS site for your project area first, as well as any county or other local municipality. For example, in TN, there are a number of Lidar projects in the works or completed. The TN State GIS site has an inventory of them (
http://gis.tn.gov/). Also, you can try the federal data.gov site (
http://catalog.data.gov/dataset), but that can be hit and miss.

I don't know of a central repository for such information, but some areas of the country are collecting topographic data obtained through LiDAR, which has the resolution you seek. In our area of the country, county planning departments sometimes have the data.
