Ms. Alyssa Sooklal, P.E., ENV SP, M.ASCE


Bio

Alyssa Sooklal, P.E., ENV SP, M.ASCE is a Senior Project Engineer with the Environmental practice area of Barton & Loguidice in Annapolis, MD. Her past and current work experience includes stormwater management, drainage design, erosion & sediment control design, stormwater management inspections, construction oversight, 1D/2D H&H modelling, feasibility studies, green infrastructure design, and other duties of engineering design, inspection, and construction. During the summer of 2016, she completed an engineering internship with the Highway Hydraulics Division of the Maryland State Highway Administration. Alyssa’s passion for Water Resources & Hydraulics stemmed from her experience at this internship, where she learned about the civil engineering industry from the perspective of a public entity.

Alyssa earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering with a secondary major in Spanish and a minor in Earth & Planetary Sciences from The Johns Hopkins University in May 2017.

Alyssa has been an active professional member of the American Society of Civil Engineers for many years and currently served as the Past President of the ASCE Maryland Younger Member Group, Secretary of the ASCE Maryland Section, and the Chair of the ASCE Maryland Section’s Professional Objectives Chair. She is an Eastern Geographic Region member of ASCE Committee on Younger Members (CYM), since January 2024. She is also an active member of the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE), where she participates in events and educational opportunities. She served as a member of McCormick Taylor’s Charity Committee, and a leader of the company’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

Alyssa is heavily involved in her community and her church’s humanitarian efforts and volunteerism. She is a first-generation American and strongly advocates for educational justice and support through her fundraising partnership with Baltimore County Public Schools. She is a Board Member of the Education Foundation of Baltimore County Public Schools.

Outside of ASCE and her professional commitments, you can find Alyssa traveling, baking, exercising, salsa dancing, and reading cute fiction novels.
