I am currently the Institution of Civil Engineers, UK (ICE) Country Representative for Nigeria. In this role, I support and guide students, graduates, trainees, and experienced engineers at various local and international engineering organizations to become professionally qualified with ICE.
I have over twenty-five (25) years of experience in progressively responsible positions in the planning, design, and construction of oil and gas facilities at Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL). On August 31, 2021, I opted for an early retirement from my position as a Senior Construction Engineer/Construction Manager in various Chevron operational fields, (including Escravos, Lagos, and Warri, Nigeria, as well as Houma, Louisiana, USA), to pursue a career in private civil and structural engineering practice.
While working for Chevron, I led significant projects within the oil/gas production in the marine environment, utilizing my extensive knowledge of the environment's complexities and the myriad of international and national legislation involved in the safety-critical industry to manage projects to successful outcomes. I also held a unique position as interface coordinator for the world’s second gas-to-liquid facility (Escravos-Gas-To-Liquid Project), a significant project by the nature of the scale and innovation requirements. During this time, I became passionate about identifying challenges and gaps in the oil & gas and construction industries and proposing solutions through in-depth research and process modifications. Before joining Chevron in 1996, I worked as a field engineer on various civil engineering, building, and road construction projects for Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Elf Petroleum Nigeria Limited, and the Federal Government of Nigeria.
My areas of specialty include project and construction management, contract administration, and engineering design.
I hold a PhD in Structural Engineering, an MEng in Civil Engineering (Structures), and a BEng in Civil Engineering. I am a fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, United Kingdom, (FICE). In addition to my membership in numerous professional organizations, including the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE), the American Society of Civil Engineers (MASCE), the American Concrete Institute (MACI), and the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers (MCSCE), I also earned the titles of ‘Registered Civil Engineer’ (REng) from the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and 'Chartered Engineer' from the Engineering Council in the United Kingdom (EC-UK).
