Mr. Zhengyu (Alex) Hu, a Fellow of the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), is a top engineer with his technical excellence and 25 years demonstrated history of working in the Structural Engineering industry internationally. He specializes in structural design of almost the entire spectrum of building types, ranging from Super-tall to long-span structures, particularly in complex structural analysis and design, structural system optimization and seismic design including Performance-Based Seismic Design (PBSD) of concrete and steel buildings and is the co-author of TT’s firmwide PBSD Design Guideline. His is licensed to practice Civil and Structural Engineering in many countries such as Canada, USA, UK and China; his design work has included many significant world-class building structures. He serves on many national and international Codes & Standards Committees and is a Technical Committee Member of CSA-S16 “Design for Steel Structures”, a Technical Committee Member of IT6 of Provisions Update Committee (PUC) for the 2026 NEHRP, an ASCE/SEI Standard Committee Member and the Vice-Chairman of the Seismic Subcommittee for the “ASCE/SEI-Standard for Design of Foundations" in USA, and a past National Code Committee Member of GB 50191-2012 “Code for Seismic Design of Special Structures” in China. He is serving as a Council member of the IStructE in UK, the Chairman of the IStructE Ontario Regional Group in Canada, as well as a Marking Examiner of IStructE Chartered Membership Examination. Other than Engineering practicing, he is authoring and editing some major international technical books including the Springer handbook “Seismic Design for Reinforced Concrete and Steel Building Structures” as well as the Springer engineering book “Seismic and Wind Design for Tall and Complex Building Structures”.
