Bio
Carlos Bertha retired as a Tenured Professor of Philosophy from the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO in 2024. He received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa in 1989. After working at the Savannah District Corps of Engineers for 5 years, he returned to USF, this time to study philosophy. He has been teaching at the Air Force Academy since June 2000. He teaches Ethics, Critical Thinking, Symbolic Logic, Philosophy of Science, and other electives.
Carlos’ main area of research is engineering ethics, particularly engineering ethics education. He
co-authored (with Dr. Steve Starrett and Dr. Amy Lara) "E
ngineering Ethics: Real World Case Studies," published by ASCE in 2017. In 2019,
Carlos retired as a Colonel from the US Army Reserve after 30 years of service and has extensive experience in military construction and Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA).
