Mr. Aaron Castelo

ASCE

Bio

Aaron Castelo is the Director of State and Local Government Relations for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and has nearly 20 years of experience in state government relations, most of it with professional and trade associations based in Washington, D.C.

In his role at ASCE, Castelo oversees the association’s program to empower local ASCE Section efforts to influence state government on issues affecting civil engineering and to advocate for ASCE priority issues at the state level.

Previously he worked as the Senior Manager of State Regulation and Legislation for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the national professional organization of certified public accountants. During his tenure there from 2007-2011, AICPA successfully passed model legislation in 40 states to remove regulatory burdens allowing CPAs to more easily practice across state lines.

For two years, he directed the state lobbying efforts for the Personal Watercraft Industry Association (PWIA) from 2005-2006. Mr. Castelo’s previous employment includes four years on the state government relations team at the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS), and a two year tenure in charge of state lobbying and grassroots at the American Academy of Otolaryngology.

Mr. Castelo is a graduate of Indiana University with a double major in journalism and political science. He has an M.A. in political science from Ball State University, and is a graduate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management. He lives in Alexandria, VA with his wife and son.
