Robert Weil currently serves the City of Decatur as the Assistant City Engineer with responsibility for the water system capital improvement program. Robert is a registered civil engineer in the states of Illinois, California, and Kansas. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the United States Coast Guard Academy and a Master of Science degree in civil engineering from Kansas State University. The area of emphasis for his master’s degree was environmental engineering, and his thesis addressed the potential to generate biogas from agro-industrial waste. Robert served as an officer for 26 years in the U.S. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserve, attaining the rank of Captain. In civilian life, Robert was a civil engineer for cities in California for 31 years, attaining the position of Public Works Director/City Engineer. Robert was also a science teacher in Thailand and the US and earned a Master of Education in International Education from Framingham State University. Robert is married with two children, and he enjoys outdoor recreation and photography.
