Keyes Advocating Lifelong Learning

Keyes has delivered such in Teaching, Research, & Services to the Civil Engineering Community:

Goal One - To educate K-12 Students through communication using Boy Scouts, High School athletics, NMSU CE Department recruitment programs & professional development in Sect, Brans, & the Insts of ASCE. Keyes began recruiting potential students throughout the region during the summer & yearly programs in structural, geotechnical, water resources, & environmental engineering.

Goal Two - To provide Strong Participation in Accreditation of Undergrad & Grad Programs, while serving in the professorial ranks & as the Dept Head at NMSU and work to “Raise the Bar” for a globalized professional practice & licensure of professionals, while serving as the Insts Rep on the ASCE Exec Comm during 2001-2003.

Goal Three - To emphasize Premier Cont Ed Progs for the entire environmental & water resources community. Promotion of high quality panels, workshops, & continuing education courses have been provided on numerous topics concerning the efforts along the US-MX border & activities associated with the 10 states within this border region. Activities to achieve this Goal include continuing education courses that enhance opportunities for professional growth; including instruction provided by distance education.

Goal Four - To support Specialty Certification Programs as appropriate in Disciplines of CE. This goal was first realized while Keyes was the Founding President of the EWRI of ASCE. Future actions will be to achieve this Goal by the promotion of other specialty certification programs for the individuals needs of satisfying regulations by local, state, federal, & international organizations that improves public welfare through innovative planning, design, construction, maintenance, & operation of environmental & water resources projects. Keyes obtained the CM title by the WMA in 2004 & obtained the Diplomat title in the AAWRE in 2005.
