I live and work from home in Highland County, VA in the Appalachian mountains. My passions in the engineering world are water resources and alternative energy, though I appreciate simple, elegant, low-tech/low-impact in any arena.
While I generally dislike labels since they tend to constrain in unpredictable ways, I am an environmentalist, a skeptic, a servant, an outdoorsman, a bushcraft and primitive technology enthusiast, and much more. And from my LinkedIn 'About' section:
• Pragmatic idealist, functional perfectionist
• Problem-solver
• Progressive - using old approaches to solve old problems IS an old problem
Mission: while maintaining environmental stewardship as a priority, to relentlessly pursue progress and maintain differentiation between progress and growth; to design innovative solutions to the most pressing present and anticipated future problems; to exceed expectations, and defy obsolete definitions and standards.
Engineering/Design philosophy in a quote:
"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, more violent. But it takes a touch of genius—and a whole lot of courage—to move in the opposite direction."

Ethical philosophy in a quote:
"Following the path of least resistance makes all rivers, and some men, crooked."
