There is a big difference between getting your heart pumping in the morning with exercise and getting it pumping sitting at your desk reading email. Some of my best days have actually started the day before with a plan for my personal well-being & work the next day. With a good night's rest, I would wake up earlier enough to exercise (e.g., P90X: Yoga, swimming, or 10–15-mile bike ride), breakfast and a shower. Yoga tended to allow the mind to separate from it all and the stretching of muscle relieved all the tension from the day before. I have to admit that out of all the exercising I have done in my life, Yoga is by far the toughest I have undertaken. I truly underestimated the strength it took to get into as well as hold those poses.
Tip #1: Plan for a great tomorrow by straightening a workspace before leaving your desk. (I rarely was able to do this.)
Tip #2: Have a great shower, early bedtime, and set the alarm for at least 1.5 hours before you need to leave.
Tip #3: Meditate (on how great your day will go); Exercise; have a good breakfast and shower.
A bike ride around 4:30 am or 5:00 am would allow me to be one of the first to breath the fresh air (relatively fresh) of the morning and there would be little to no noise. There was always a peace that came with being one of the first to step into the new day. Seeing the moon still in the sky and later watching the sun peek over the horizon. I would come into the office early and at peace.
Of course, these tips worked well for me. There are other means and methods to having a great day. What are your tips for starting and having your best day at work?
