Search for corrosion engineering. Look at zinc sacrificial systems. One of our past projects dealt with 12" reinforced concrete slabs on top of salt laden sand fill. There was no membrane installed between the sand and the bottom of the slabs. The salt came up through the slab and corroded out the reinforcing ...
