    Posted 02-26-2023 07:31 PM

In Kuwait, and due to recent earthquakes in the neighboring countries like Turkey, Syria and Iran, concern was raised about the seismic design coded to be used in Kuwait for structures and infrastructures. At the present time, there is no seismic deign code available and design against seismic is done based on the design engineer background and knowledge of available design codes elsewhere.

ASCE-KIG was assigned the task by the Kuwait Society of Engineers (KSE) to start process of getting all parties involved in design and seismic to establish the guidelines for seismic design code in Kuwait.

Appreciate any input from your experience to guide us through this process.

Waleed – perhaps you can, as well, inquire whether seismic maps and best-practices design guidelines are provided by Geneva based model code organization – ISO (International Standard Organization) for countries in your region. I see that Kuwait is a member of ISO.

Materials available in other model codes – like in USA based IBC (International Building Code) and EUROCODES may provide some useful insights. Being in an academic institution, you are in a good position to consult them and others for reference.
