  • 1.  Disposing of Surface Water on a Four-Lane Road

In India, there are some innovative process of maintaining safety while people cross a
four-lane road anywhere disregarding the location of the pedestrian crossing. The median
is tilted so no one can stand on it and no one can cross it anywhere. It is
flat only at the authorized location of crossing. It remains raised,
otherwise two-wheelers will use these as crossing points. Such things are there in India
    with no major expense.

What is the easiest and cheapest way of disposing surface water from one carriageway to
    another at a super-elevated section of a curve for a four-lane road?

    Dear Partha
I think the effective method will be, to give a small drain in the inner shoulder of raised carriageway. After a proper distance a catch pit with a culvert shall be constructed to drain out the collected water in the pit. You can also lay street grating over the drain.

    Thanks and regards,

    Partha,
Go to Txdot.gov and look for the Texas Department of Transportation Hydraulics Manual, or just google "TxDOT Hydraulics Manual".  We have the same issues of a raised median and drainage from the roadway.
