A colleague of mine told me that a prior company of theirs didn't want to sign off on their PE hours.
I'm not certain how or why a company would do that so I wanted to ask this forum.

What would prevent you or a company from signing off on an employee's PE hours?

    Hey Daniel,

The only professional reason I could think of is if someone were to grossly misrepresent the work they performed under the PE being asked to sign. At that point, I would likely offer to do so after it was revised to more accurately. However, we're all human, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that occasionally more petty reasons arise such as "you quit working for our company and we're upset about that and are going to choose to try to punish you for moving on."

Typically, the sign off is for the individual that has some direct knowledge of the hours in question. There are some challenges that can arise when the individual for which you did all the work is no longer employed by the company.
As a licensed engineer, I have recently been in the position of having to ask my last known acting supervisors to verify work projects, but not necessarily specific hours, for NCEES.

I'm also concerned about this Daniel! If anyone else can keep the thread going I'm interested to hear more.

I found this interesting tidbit under TN Rules of Professional Conduct - "A registrant possessing knowledge of an applicant's qualifications for registration shall cooperate with the applicant and/or the Board by responding appropriately regarding those qualifications when requested to do so. A registrant shall provide timely verification of employment and/or experience earned by an applicant under the registrant's supervision if there is reasonable assurance that the facts to be verified are accurate. A registrant shall not knowingly sign any verification document that contains false or misleading information."
