Risk Management

  • 1.  Any recommended resources on VOWD + risk?

    Posted 07-16-2025 10:03 PM

    Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking into how Value of Work Done (VOWD) reporting can be effectively combined with risk presentation - especially during early project phases. If anyone has come across helpful resources, templates, or has experience integrating these elements, I'd really appreciate any pointers.

    Thanks so much in advance!

    Best,
    Darya

If you are using a stage-gate process to manage your project, you might be able to superimpose the stage-gate map with a plot showing the VOWD. The stage-gate process is inherently a risk management tool through its alignment of deliverables with decisions. Deliverables ostensibly include risk identification, assessment, and mitigation.

    Hi Mitch,

Thank you so much for your insightful reply - I really appreciate your point about the stage-gate process functioning as a risk management tool and how VOWD can be mapped alongside it.

If you happen to have any recommended readings, case studies, or resources that expand on this approach, I'd be truly grateful. I'd love to explore this further.

Thanks again for your time and input!

    Warm regards,
    Darya

This is one of the best descriptions of the stage process I've come across. I verified with the author that it is okay to share the link: https://pdhacademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/524-Stage_Gate_Project_Management.pdf. It might give you insight into what you want to do.

Thank you, Darya, for raising this thoughtful prompt. I've found that integrating VOWD logic into early-phase planning benefits greatly from a constraint-aware lens, especially where physical access and financial bandwidth are tightly interlinked.

I've been working on a planning layer that sits between the Project Development Plan and the first formal update essentially a constraint-based prioritization statement. It ranks activities not just by sequence but by feasibility under physical and financial limitations. This helps surface risk early, before baselines are locked.

Grateful for your insights, and looking forward to learning more from your approach
