  • 1.  Results of Study on Ethics in Engineering

    Good morning,

    I know several folks who reached out with interest and who may not see my reply in the original post. A few months ago, I conducted a study for my doctoral dissertation on ethics in the engineering profession. The results were surprising but reinforced the role that moral disengagement plays in predicting when and how professionals behave in ways that depart from their moral standards, with potentially harmful consequences for their customers and the public.     Dear Kyle, thanks for sharing! It is an interesting topic... I see this unethical pro-organization behavior (UPB) even in governments...

    One question that frequently arises in my country (Colombia) is how to exemplify good ethical behavior in civil engineering students because we are surrounded by many bad examples that seem to be the "way we do things." I firmly believe that if someone is harmed/affected by my actions, that is unethical. Regards,
