I'm writing this post as "food for thought", relative to a job switcher....

Items to consider in your current position:

    1. Are you learning and being offered continuous job enriching opportunities?
    2. Are you well respected by your immediate supervisor and your peers?
    3. Are you enjoying your assignments and do you understand the basis of your enjoyment? Is the company culture consistent with your values and does it support rational processes, in other words, have you struggled frequently with decisions or constraints placed in your path to project execution?

As you ponder these questions, it should provide some insight on a potential job switch or at a minimum, questions for your interview with a prospective firm.  In the civil engineering field, you are in demand as well as the drivers seat of your destiny.  Remember, money does not equate to happiness!  Just remember these possibilities - the new company could demand OT, an arduous work load, a nasty over worked boss that passes frustration down, or sacrifices your developments for just getting the backlog burned down.

What have your experiences been with switching jobs?
