The Asian Civil Engineering Council's 8th Civil Engineering Conference in the Asian Region (CECAR8) concluded on April 19th in Tokyo. The theme for the conference was "Resilient Infrastructures in Seamless Asia.  ASCE is a member of ACECC and currently chairs the committee on sustainable infrastructure. The needs for infrastructure in Asia are enormous; according to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Asia alone needs $26 trillion by 2030.  A series of sessions at CECAR8 focused on bridging the investment gap to quality and resilient infrastructure in Asia.  China's Belt and Road Initiative is expected to make a major contribution to filling the investment gap but still falls far short of the needed investment.

The Center Strategic International Studies (CSIS) has been studying the issue of infrastructure in Asia as part of its: Reconnecting Asia:  Analyzing China's Belt and Road Initiative" project and there is a wealth of background information on the CSIS project website.

What can/should ASCE do at the global level or globally to ensure infrastructure sustainability, resilience, and quality?
